WE COMMIT TO REDUCING OUR ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION TOGETHER. THE VIDEO WORKS IN THE MIRE PROGRAMME ARE ONLY SHOWN DURING PEAK HOURS, FROM 7 AM TO 9.30 AM, 12 PM TO 2.30 PM & 5.30 PM TO 8 PM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY.

Inspired by non-Western indigenous navigation methods, which rely on topographical intelligence – meaning that movements are conceived in relation to the specific characteristics of the site rather than in terms of one’s own position – Crosslucid has created Tidal Transmissions: Navigation, a video composed of images whose movements are generated from ocean data flows collected by a network of satellites to monitor sea levels and model a climate map of the Earth’s water surfaces. The duo draws an analogy between the mobility networks of railway stations, more specifically the rails that allow for fluid movement, and the moving surface of water. This parallel leads the artists to develop a poetic sequence of images, composed of organic forms that seem to spring from the depths of the oceans to take their place on the LED walls of the platforms. The artists also point out that all digital manipulation travels through a network of cables installed in our oceans and buried under a mass of marine sediments. The quasi-symbiotic relationship between the marine world and the digital universe then serves as the foundation for the creation of the multi-agent system TIDE – Today It Dissolves Everything, Tomorrow It Deepens Existence, whose main characteristics are indeterminacy.

What the train station’s audience observes is TIDE’s response to its programming by artists. The system is a dynamic agent, and its programming is minimal so that chance can emerge in the gaps. It addresses travellers by reminding them that in a world governed by a form of predeterminism, it is still possible to navigate without a destination.
